Joy's Bangkok Travel Notes

Bangkok is one of the most popular holiday destination among my friends, and definitely one of my "to-visit" places. And why not? It's near (to SIngapore), it's cheap (with all those great Bangkok deals). But best of all, it's where you shop for bags, clothes and shoes at steal prices. And after that, indulge in a Thai massage, before you tuck into some spicy Thai food.

Cycling in Bangkok

One of my online sources says that “if you plan to ride a bicycle in Bangkok, do so with care.”  Bangkok’s traffic can get pretty chaotic.

However, if you still want to explore this city on wheels, there are some safe and enjoyable routes you can take.
Although this city has a “second-level” bicycle track, you may not be able to avoid the roads with the heavy traffic.  But if you choose the right route, much of your journey does not need to be on the “ground level”.

Bangkok Cycling Spots ( for sports or recreation)

Across the Chao Phraya River

  • A short distance away from busy Sukhumvit
  • An undeveloped part of Bangkok that can only be reached by boat as no bridges cover this part of the river
  • A peaceful place with lush vegetation, small villages and tropical jungles

Bangkok Countryside

  • You’ll need to take a short drive east of Bangkok to this place called Minburi
  • One of the city’s oldest suburbs
  • A countryside of canals, ricefields, cottage industries
  • The San Saeb Canal is one of Bangkok’s most important waterways as it connects the city’s two main rivers.

Khao Ito (must-ride)

  • Once again, you’d need to get a ride out (about 1 and half hours) to this relatively unknown, untouched area called Khao Ito. It borders on Khao Yai national park and is a ‘Must ride” place if you are a serious mountain biker.
  • Undulating terrain offers adrenalin pumping challenges.
  • And the superb views are not to be missed.
  • Trails will change with seasons and rain.
