Ko Kred

• Only a short distance up the Chaophraya River and can be easily reached by boat.
• The island was created about 300 years ago when the ruler of Ayuthaya made a “shortcut” to shorten the trip and down the river.
• The island is famous for it delicately patterned earthenware pottery.
• Another attraction is the chance to see village life.

The Ancient City

• Situated on the way to Pattaya.
• Started by a Thai tycoon who wanted a “Cultural Theme Park” for Thais to learn about their country’s architectural history.
• Set aside a full day to enjoy this place.

Lopburi

• A modern town about 2 hours drive north of Bangkok.
• Was an important city during the Khmer empire in the 10th century.  Later used as the second capital of the Ayutthaya kingdom by King Narai
• One highlight is the city remains.
• Also look out for the Chaohraya Wichayen, used as a residence by Narai's Greek-born chief minister.
• Look out also for the Kala shrine, a temple over run with monkeys

Wat Chalerm Phrakiet and Chalerm Kanchanapisek Park

• A temple built by Rama III to commemorate his mother.
• Located on the banks of the Chaophraya River north of Bangkok.
• Next to the temple is a relatively new park built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the king's ascension to the throne.

Phra Pathom Chedi

• About one hours' drive west of Bangkok.
• Features a monastery which is also the site for a huge temple fair in late October.
• Originally built in the 6th century, but have undergone several ‘improvements’
