Joy's Bangkok Travel Notes

Bangkok is one of the most popular holiday destination among my friends, and definitely one of my "to-visit" places. And why not? It's near (to SIngapore), it's cheap (with all those great Bangkok deals). But best of all, it's where you shop for bags, clothes and shoes at steal prices. And after that, indulge in a Thai massage, before you tuck into some spicy Thai food.

Bangkok Getting Around

BTS Skyrain

Fast. Affordable and modern. The Silom Line begins at Saphan Taksin station/boat pier, travels through Silom and ends at the National Stadium.

Fares: Between 10-40 baht or 100 baht for a day pass (10, 15 and 30 trip passes are also available). Trains come every 3-5 minutes. Journey times are no more than 30 minutes from one end of the line to the other.

City Buses

Cheap and reliable.
Green bus: 4.5 baht. Be careful because there are no closed doors on these small buses.

Red bus (blue / white bus): 6 baht (7 for blue). These are regular sized and come with fans.

Air con buses (cream  / blue and orange): 9-17 baht (cream blue), 11-12 baht (orange).

Boat

The Chao Phraya has several boats, such as the Chao Phraya Express Boat. Runs from  Wat Rajsingkorn to Nonthaburi (6 to 10 baht).

Canal Boats

Carry a map of the canal boat routes with you as this will come in handy.

Tuk-tuks

Quick, easy and popular way to get around. Generally, a tuk-tuk should cost less than 30 percent of a taxi fare for the same destination.

Motorcyles

20 baht per ride. Motorcyle taxi drivers usually wear orange or green waistcoast with unique number. Another cheap way to beat the traffic. One tip if you are stuck in a taxi in a jam, is to get off the taxi, and make the remaining part of your journey on this.
