Museums in Bangkok
Not many people visit Bangkok for the museums. But I think it’s a great way to know the heart of a country or city, beyond its touristy façade. The buildings below may not be ‘museums’ per se, but ‘museum-like’ places. Some are about past monarchs, while others cover forensic science.
National Museum
If you are visiting the Grand Palace and if time allows, pop by the National Museum and see memorabilia from past kings. This used to be a residence of a former king.
The Jim Thompson House Museum
Highly recommended by my friend who's been there. These six houses were originally brought from the village, and reconstructed at their present location. And they are built without nails!
The Princess Mother Memorial Park
This park has a museum dedicated to the late Princess Mother. One exhibition hall chronicles her life
Suan Pakkard Palace Museum
Consists of a collection of traditional Thai style houses bought together and turned into a museum by some royals.
The Ancient City
Started by a Thai tycoon as "Cultural Theme Park" where Thais could learn about their country’s architectural history.
King Prajadhipok Museum
A museum devoted to this king who ruled as RamaVII for just 10 years, but his reign marked the end of the absolute monarchy.
Erawan Museum
This museum is house in a huge sculpture of a three-headed elephant!
Museum of Siam Discovery
Bangkok's newest museum to let visitors understand ‘What does it mean to be Thai?”
