Joy's Bangkok Travel Notes

Bangkok is one of the most popular holiday destination among my friends, and definitely one of my "to-visit" places. And why not? It's near (to SIngapore), it's cheap (with all those great Bangkok deals). But best of all, it's where you shop for bags, clothes and shoes at steal prices. And after that, indulge in a Thai massage, before you tuck into some spicy Thai food.

Sightseeing spots when in Bangkok

Bangkok Folk Museum

73 Charoenkrung, 43 Soi
Charoenkrung Road, Sri Phraya
Bangkok,
10500

This is a traditional house that was built before World War II. Now it's a private museum that houses antiques, traditional household utensils and other items of historical significance. A good tip would be to contact the museum and request for a guided tour. And would you believe it? Admission is free.

The Siam Society

21 Sukhumvit Road
131 Soi Asoke
Bangkok,
10110

This is a good place to find out about the history of  Thailand, with their extensive reference library and regular speakers talking about a range of topics. The Society also regularly organises trips to historic site and cities around the region.

Bangkok Sightseeing City Tram

Bangkok Tourist Bureau
17/1 Phra Arthit Road, Phra Nakorn
Bangkok,
10200

This must be one of the best ways to see the city. Relax inside this electric tram while a professional guide tells you about sites. Look out for Grand Palace to Pak Talong Flower Market, Ta Chang Pier to the National Gallery.

Vimanmek Museum

The World's Biggest Teak Mansion

16 Rajavithi Road
Bangkok,
10300

This is the world largest golden teak structure and was built more than a century agao. This 3-storey masion is built without using a single metal nail but teak ones! Also look out for the traditional dancing shows.
