Joy's Travel Notes on Suan Lum Night Bazaar
This is another Bangkok’s famous market. Less crowded than Chartuchak, it’s great if you don’t like thronging crowds. It’s located at the corner of Silom Road and across Lumphini Park.
Stuffs you’ll find here include sa paper, silk clothing, ceramics, home décor and a number of ‘only-in-Thailand’ products. There are also a few stalls that carry stylish handbags, dresses and precious stone jewelry.
The market is divided into zones that is named after Siam’s old capitals (Ayutthaya, Sukhothai and Lop Buri). In zones A, B and C, you’ll find aromatherapy goods like scented candles, scented soaps and essential oils.
Head to Raan bai Mai for luxurious scented products. I hear they are the official supplier to Banyan Tree resorts.
For funky furniture items, go to Zone D. They also carry traditional Thai artworks, tapestries and other decorative items.
You can visit Fabiola Design in Lop Buri for hand-made picture frames, while Paper Art and Décor (also in Lop Buri) will offer you necklaces, vases and candle-holder made of …paper!
And for the shopping-weary, there’s even a spa with reflexology and Thai massage here. For nightlife, you can visit the beer garden near the entrance, or listen to Thai singers performing at the outdoor stage.
