About Me
The best way to describe me would be to describe what ‘Joy’s Perfect World’ would be like.
In my perfect world, I would be traveling around the world. One moment I’d be eating "souvlaki" sandwich in Greece by the Mediterranean waters … the next moment I’d be diving with the sharks in Australia … after that, I’d be magically transported to the picturesque sunsets of Bali, where I will (again, magically) whisk out my Minolta Konica digi cam and take gorgeous ‘Nat Geo like’ photos.
My name is Joy. When I am not daydreaming about perfect getaways, I am writing for this fantastic website, or heading down to Geylang Road to eat durians with my Northeast Indian tribal hunky husband. Here is our photo!
Oh yes, my husband. When I went to Assam, India in 2005, I fell so much in love with the place, I decided to fall in love with a man there. After an epic tumultuous long-distance 2-year courtship, we got married in his village in 2007.
Here are the photos, and I am wearing their traditional costume, the Dokhuna. It was a tribal village wedding with no less than 4000 villagers, bringing gifts of tea sets to packs of rice. Very un-Singaporean. Very cool. We slaughtered 4 pigs, and ate massive amounts of rice, a staple for the Boro people.
For our honeymoon, we went to Shillong, a nearby hill station and ate mo-mo (dumplings) and drank masala (spice) tea.
I also try to ‘travel’ in little Singapore ... to find 'joy' in the ordinary. One of my favourite places is right in the middle of town, the Bugis Junction water fountain. You tend to only find kids playing in the fountain, but if you put your ‘face’ aside, that fountain satisfies every whimsical fiber in you. Here's a picture of me, being splashed all by myself.
Oh, and one last thing. I am forever 25. That never changes year after … after year … after year ...
